We are the traditional temple priests of Siva, Parvati Devi, Ganesa, Hanuman and Gramadevata temples in Maharashtra and parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. We manage and maintain these temples and are the family priests to Devadasis, the traditional female temple dancers. It is also believed that we got our name from the Sanskrit word 'Guru'. We live mainly in the Konkan region and speak only Marathi.
